Abstract

Sayf al-Dawla al-Hamdani emerged as a distinguished defender amidst the turmoil and instability that plagued the Abbasid Caliphate. His significant contributions—as a warrior and a statesman with a unique vision—stand out in the history of the fourth century AH (tenth century CE). This research focuses on analyzing the political and military thought of Sayf al-Dawla, examining his conduct of warfare—characterized by formidable authority and unwavering resolve—and his ability to overcome numerous military adversaries and internal challenges facing the Abbasid Caliphate during this era of Islamic history. Consequently, this study is titled "Politics and War in the Thought of Sayf al-Dawla al-Hamdani (333–356 AH / 944–967 CE)." The research highlights the importance of examining the Prince’s political and military persona regarding the management of internal affairs and external shifts, while its primary objective is to understand the policies, strategies, and measures he employed in the military sphere. The study utilizes various research methodologies, notably the descriptive approach, to present, organize, and analyze the scholarly material in order to establish historical facts.
